In the wake of Hurricane Irene, area school officials are grappling with power outages, forcing many to cancel Monday classes.

The following schools will be closed Monday: Prince George's, Charles, Howard, St. Mary's, Anne Arundel and Calvert counties.

Several schools in the District were out of power as of Sunday evening. District school officials said further announcements on plans for those schools would be made.

In Montgomery County, power has yet to be restored to 22 schools. Officials will monitor those schools and make a final decision by 6 a.m., according to a news release.
